Description

Meet your guide at specific location in city, get on coach and head to Sai Kung. We will have a boat trip to cruise in Sai Kung Inner Sea to visit the volcanic rock area of the Hong Kong Global Geopark (about 45mins) before boarding on Sharp Island. In the afternoon, we will have another short boat trip to visit Yim Tin Tsai. Our Recommended Geopark Guide (R2G) will share his knowledge of the rock formation and the history of the islands during the trip.

Sharp Island is one of the most easily accessible geopark attractions. It is a lovely island of great natural beauty and geo-heritage. The “pineapple rocks” there are superstars of Hong Kong Geopark. They were once ordinary granite boulders, which were sculpted into their present appearance by weathering processes and wave erosion. With their reticulate crack on the surface, they bear a striking resemblance to the pineapple bun, a local delicacy well-loved by locals and tourists alike.

The tombolo is the famous landmark on Sharp Island. Its 200m natural sand levee is made up of sediments transported and deposited by wind and waves. It appears above water only at low tide.

After getting back to Sai Kung Pier, we will walk to Sai Kung Volcano Discovery Center to have a short visit. Then we will have lunch at one of the seafood restaurants in Sai Kung Fish Market. After lunch we will board on boat again to visit Yim Tin Tsai.

Yim Tin Tsai is a 300-year-old Sai Kung Hakka settlement, which was once home to more than 200 villagers from over 40 households. It was deserted after the last family moved out in the 90’s. Now the island has been revived thanks to a group of motivated villagers. The island is full interesting remnants of its past. Key attractions on the island include St. Joseph’s Chapel, the Salt Pans, the Pavilion and the Abandoned Hakka Homes etc.

After the visit, we will go back to Sai Kung Pier, get on coach and head back to city. Tour ends.
