We will take the charter ferry from Tsim Sha Tsui Public Pier and head east to Joss House Bay. Enjoy lovely scenery on both sides of Victoria Harbour and pass by Kowloon Bay and Lei Yue Mun along the way.
Disembark at Joss House Bay Public Pier, visit the sea facing temple - Tin Hua Temple, also known as Tai Miu near the south end of Joss House Bay. Looking out from the temple is Tong Long Chau. The temple is believed to be built in 1266 and is about 750 years old. It is the oldest and largest Tin Hua temple in Hong Kong and is listed as a Grade 1 historic building. The Chinese name of Joss House Bay, Tai Miu Wan, literally means "the bay of the large temple".
Visit the Rock Inscription at Joss House Bay, dated to the JiaShu year of the XianChun reign in the Southern Song Dynasty (i.e. 1276 AD). It is the oldest dated inscription in Hong Kong, and records a visit by Yan Yizhang, an officer in charge of the salt administration, and a friend.
The guide will then lead the group and walk to Po Toi O fishermen village for lunch (about 20 mins walk). After lunch, we will walk back to the Joss House Bay Public Pier to board the ferry again.
The ferry will take us to Tong Long Chau, previously known as Nam Tong Island or Nam Fat Tong. It is an island located off the tip of the Clear Water Bay Peninsula in the New Territories of Hong Kong.
Key attractions on the island include:
Tung Long Fort, which was built 300 years ago and recently refurbished.
A prehistoric stone carving can also be found on the island. Measuring 180 cm by 240 cm, it is the largest ancient rock carving in Hong Kong. The stone carving was mentioned in the 1819 Gazetteer of Xin'an County.
Hung Shing Temple located at Nam Tong is a temple built before 1931. Inside the temple, a huge rock, called 'Holy Rock' by the worshippers, is protruding from the rear wall of the right chamber.
A World War II Japanese small gun emplacement was located near Tathong Point Nam Tong Mei, probably to guard Tathong Channel. It is believed that the existence of this facility may have been the reason why the Allies bombed the island.
The ferry will take us back to Tsim Sha Tsui Public Pier from Tong Long Chau, and the tour ends.
